Would taking the Harp book from the KH library be stealing?
by EndofMysteries incan anyone verify, but aren't those supposed to be trashed?
there are no pre 1950's wt in there anymore.
i saw that book there though, wondering if once an elder realizes it, will it be trashed or not?

"My" atheism...
by changeling ina comment on dgp's thread about being kind to jw's promted me to post this thread.. as a life long (46 years) jw, i was conditioned to doing "the right thing" because it was required of me.
i was also conditioned to be on the lookout for others not doing the right thing and either distancing myself from them or reporting them to the elders.. today, i consider myself an atheist.
i have nobody telling me what the right thing is or fear of being punished for not doing it.

I too believe this and found within myself....I would rather be kind because I choose rather then because i have to.
That's why I was DF'd actually.
I had faded. I would smoke a cig every now and then...but never a real smoker. One day some Wit saw me smoking and went to the elders. The elders called me for the big meeting....and said someone saw me smoking and asked if I was smoking? I told them yes....once in a great while..(boy was I naive, I should have asked them two provide their two or three witnesses). They asked me if I was going to continue smoke. I responded, well I hadn't really thought about it. I don't smoke all that often. They then read me some scriptures of angering god, loving god and destruction then asked me if I was going to repent, again? I told them no....I'm not going to repent because you're NOW asking me to......I should be sorry before God because I truly am. They proceeded to muscle me into repenting....getting firmer. Again, I told them, NO...I'm NOT going to repeat before God because you're muscling me into it. I refused to repent out of principle.

A wonderful post and poem, Changeling...
Things I found interesting:
There was a very small tribe of people, who had absolutely no contact with the outside world, what's so ever. They found these people had made up ethical moral codes on their very own.
I also found this study on six month old babies on good vs evil, right vs wrong:
Also, there was a program on TV with children and ethics...(no mention of godly). They left children in a room filled with toys and a hugry bunny. All the children were told "the bunny hadn't eaten all day and he was really hungry....(I can't remember if they were told it may die if not feed)...and there was food, somewhere, in the room for the bunny". The first thing some did, was look for the food, never playing with the toys....while, others could care less and played. After they asked each child for their actions...the children who played with toys with no concern for the bunny exhibited a defensive selfish attitude. The others who looked for the food showed a very compassionate attitude. The big question in this study? Was it really important to teach children ethics?

I don't know what made be buy the Universal Sovereignty argument for the permission of evil
by gubberningbody in...but it seems foundational to any intelligent investing in a religion.. i you can't provide a morally upright reason for the permission of evil without just having the deity pull rank and declare himself righteous, then i'm not really interested in hearing any more.. were i to listen, it would be out of morbid curiosity, not out of any intent to invest..

the WTS may have changed much...from when I was in. If they are demonizing people for not being the perfect witness.....that's not true love is...
Flipper that was a real nice response....truly appreciated even by me...
If you want out Peter.....don't beat yourself up for it....there's nothing wrong with you......if the WTS isn't the place for you....it's just that, not right for you.
To be honest, I left because I became very depressed. A single person, alone. Bible banging was my only friend. I had a few friends but they weren't always around....and I was just plain bored out of my mind which lead to depression. I'm a creative and love lifes misfits. When I got home from meetings.....boy did I really feel alone. I couldn't take it anymore.
I finally left and made lots of friends on the outside. And now, I have a select few....and now, rather a loner by choice...maybe age...or my new nature. However, I'm happy.....I feel alive.....free.......because if I choose.....there's still lotz of things I can do and people I can see.....life is huge.....just to have that choice......for me personally..... is amazing. And yes, the WTS if a very conditional drag!

I personally believe All That Is (The Mighty One) does exist, however, not in way, some believe or understand. Quantum Mechanic's and Physics mixed with the emergence of corporal newly born ego... is quite complicated......for a new born to understand......
The first actual humans, were a very crude corporal version of mankind.......
If we truly evolved from animals. A shift took place from just being of instinctual nature. Or, if the first crude humans are born from micro organisms as animals were born from earths soil....a shift still took place with the emergence of ego........which humankind needs to understand things like....not putting your hand in the fire...etc... with the emergence of an ego = deeper understanding.

Oh my dear......I personally believe....that's purely mans/human "limited" interpretation of the old book....we truly only have an exquisite "tiny glimpse" of atomic consciousness.....and true natures of reality........
This psychic drama is being played out because we are a new breed of consciousness to ourselves and fear our own being......until understand and get a grip of our new natures......
